Carol Nielsen
Carol Nielsen is a mixed media collage artist living in Port Ludlow. She grew up in Seattle, living the last 40 years in Woodinville and Bothell before moving to Port Ludlow. Carol’s working career has been in Operations Management, Project Management and Organizational Development in the private sector and in Healthcare. She holds a master’s degree in Management from Antioch University, Seattle.
Carol began focusing on mixed media collage during her retirement and is self-taught. She has studied with various artists in the Pacific Northwest and Sante Fe, learning a variety of techniques that she incorporates into her designs. Carol values lifelong learning and continues to study with a variety of artists. Her style is influenced by many years of creating balance, symmetry, and connections in her work with teams and in
nature as a Master Gardener.
She creates her own monoprint papers using acrylic paints, stencils, lines, textures and stamps. Carol incorporates other handmade papers, found papers and acrylic paint in her art and consistently experiments with new and enhanced approaches to emphasize composition and movement in her pieces. Her work layers papers and acrylic paints on substrates of canvas and paper.
Carol’s work has been exhibited at the Port Ludlow Art Gallery, the Inn at Port Ludlow, Port Ludlow Community Merchant Program, The Bay Club, Port Ludlow, Spirits Gallery Old Alcohol Plant in Port Hadlock, Northwind Art Center’s Jeanette Best Gallery, and Community Art in the Library exhibit at the Port Townsend Library. She is a regular exhibitor at Port Townsend Vineyard’s Vintage location on Water Street in Port Townsend.
